Free high school GPA calculator. Calculate both unweighted 4.0 GPA and weighted GPA with AP (+1.0), IB (+1.0), and Honors (+0.5) course weights. Supports semester courses, prior cumulative GPA, and target GPA planning.
An unweighted GPA is calculated on a standard 4.0 scale where an A is worth 4.0 points regardless of course difficulty. A weighted GPA rewards academic rigor by adding extra grade points for advanced courses: typically +0.5 for Honors classes (up to 4.5) and +1.0 for AP (Advanced Placement), IB, and College Dual Enrollment courses (up to 5.0).
Multiply the grade points earned in each course by the credit value of that course (usually 1.0 or 0.5) to determine quality points. Sum all quality points and divide by the total number of credits attempted.
Admissions offices review both. Many universities recalculate your GPA on a standardized core academic unweighted scale, while evaluating your course rigor (number of AP and Honors classes taken) as a primary indicator of college readiness.
