A teacher friend used to pull popsicle sticks from a mug for random picks, until the mug broke mid-class and sticks went everywhere. Low-tech randomness works until it theatrically doesn’t. Digital picking is instant, verifiable, and (crucially) visibly fair to everyone watching the screen.
Paste your list of names to pick single winners, randomize full orders, or split into balanced teams. Classroom picks, giveaway winners, standup order, secret Santa, sports drafts, anywhere ‘who’s first’ or ‘who wins’ needs an impartial answer. Team mode distributes evenly so nobody can claim stacking.
Try it now: open the free tool, runs 100% in your browser.
Fairness theater matters as much as fairness: share your screen while picking (witnessed randomness ends disputes), decide redraw rules before picking (absentees eligible? previous winners excluded?), and save the list so results are auditable later. For prizes with real value, screenshot the result, the five seconds of documentation prevents one hundred percent of ‘that looked rigged’ conversations.
Bottom line: decide the rules first, pick on screen, screenshot valuable results.
